3. Configure the Modem
  1. In the Network Pane of System Preferences, click the Modem tab.
  2. If your Mac has an internal modem, under Modem select Apple Internal 56K Modem (v.90). If you have an iMac, this may also say iMac Internal 56K Modem. If you have an external modem, consult the documentation that came with your modem for the correct selection.

4. Making a PPP Connection

Before using Eudora Pro, Netscape, or any other Internet application, you'll need to make a PPP connection. Here's how:

  1. Open your Hard Drive, and click Applications.
  2. Double-click Internet Connect.
  3. Under Configuration, select Internal Modem.
  4. Under Password, enter your password.
  5. Click Connect.
  6. The Status line will change as your machine is connecting to the network. When you have established a connection, information will appear in the bottom of the window showing how long you have been connected.

5. Closing Your PPP Connection

Internet Connect does not automatically close the PPP connection when you're finished with your Internet application. This is good, because you may want to use another application that will use the Internet connection. It's also bad, because if you don't hang up the phone, you'll continue accumulating PPP charges. Here's how you disconnect:

  1. Quit any Internet applications.
  2. Open the Internet Connect application.
  3. Click Disconnect.
  4. When you have totally disconnected, the Status line will change to Idle.
